Therapy and Counseling
What is Therapy?
Therapy is a broad term for “getting help.” It is a gradual process of working alongside a therapist or counselor to approach specific mental health conditions or daily human challenges.

Why is therapy beneficial?
During therapy, individuals are able to learn more about themselves and develop new skills. As a result, individuals can learn to improve their communication skills, better express and manage their emotions, greater their self-esteem, recognize distorted thought processes, and generate relief from depression and other mental health conditions.
Therapy works hand in hand with brain development to improve overall health and well-being. Specifically, through therapy, neuroplasticity, or the brain’s ability to create and change neural connections and pathways, can occur and influence more positive thought processes and self-talk.
An example of this is when learning a new coping skill. Consistent practice of this coping skill can induce new neural connections that promote resilience. Additionally, the newly formed habits replace older connections related to unhealthy behaviors and cognitive distortions with new synapses and connections. By recognizing the role of therapy and neuroplasticity, new healthy habits and coping skills can result in healthy outcomes and allow individuals to recover emotionally, physically, mentally, and emotionally.
